Abstract

The use and occupation of land in order to solve the physical and social demands of cities altered the urban landscape and degraded the environment. The removal of native vegetation, the increase in the number of buildings and the increase in impermeable surfaces contribute to the rise in temperature, causing an increase in thermal discomfort. The Pantanal Arena Sports Complex is one of the most important urban areas in the city of Cuiabá, with sports and recreation purposes for the population, its surroundings are characterized by little afforestation and many waterproofed areas. In this context, the general objective of this work is the microclimatic characterization of the surroundings of the Arena Pantanal according to the collected data of air temperature and relative humidity, carried out in the hot/dry and hot/humid periods, in 12 different points of the complex. sports and at three times of the day, at 8:00h, 14:00h and 20:00h. The results indicated that the hot/humid period presented air temperature and relative humidity with higher values compared to the hot and dry season, and that the type of material that covers the soil also interferes in the variables of air temperature and relative humidity, which may increase the thermal discomfort of users in urban areas.
